Location:

As part of the Archeox Project's excavations at Minchery Farm Paddock in autumn 2012 trench 1 sampled a peat deposit associated with the line of the Littlemore/Northfield Brook. This report by Adrian Parker and Gareth Preston of Oxford Brookes University gives the results of geoarchaeological and palaeoenvironmental analysis of these deposits which span the end of the last iceage to the Early Bronze Age.

Lithic artefacts from ARCHEOX excavations at Minchery Paddock - autumn 2012

Location:

The MP12 lithic assemblage indicates a human presence on the site, definitely between the Early Neolithic and Early Bronze Age (c. 4000-1500 BC), and potentially as early as the Mesolithic (c. 9000-4000 BC). This fits with wider patterns of inhabitation evidenced by archaeological investigations on neighbouring sites.

Minchery Paddock 2012 - Trench 2

Location:

Trench 2 was opened to join John Moore Heritage Services (JMHS) 2006 evaluation trenches 3 and 4. JMHS Trench 3 had yielded medieval pottery and tile and possible wall foundations, while JMHS trench 4 had revealed the corner of a hearth, a well and also contained medieval pottery and tile.The new trench was L-shaped: 13m N-S x 11m W-E at its maximum,with the longer N-S arm being 5m wide and the shorter W-E arm 4m wide.

Minchery Paddock 2012 - Trench 1

Location:

Trench 1 was the northern most of three trenches excavated at Minchery Farm Paddock by the Archaeology of East Oxford Project (Archeox) in October/November 2012. Trench one was approximately 50m downslope and to the northwest of Trench 2. It was positioned to investigate peat deposits associated with the line of the Littlemore Brook.
